3 Tips to Improve Daily
May 31, 2024Picture a bustling medieval village, in the year 1400 A.D., where a young blacksmith named Vulcan toiled day and night, hammering away at his work.
One day, as he gazed at the great castle on the hill, he dreamed of crafting a masterpiece that would rival even the king's sword.
But Vulcan knew he couldn't achieve greatness overnight. So he focused on making small improvements each day.
He practiced his technique, honed his skills, and paid attention to the tiniest details.
Slowly but surely, his work began to shine. People took notice of Vulcan's dedication and craftsmanship.
They admired the sturdiness of his creations and marveled at his attention to detail.
Soon, the townsfolk lined up outside his humble shop, eager to acquire his masterpieces.
Word of Vulcan's talent reached the king, who commissioned him to forge a sword worthy of a hero. Vulcan poured his heart and soul into that creation, leaving no stone unturned.
When the sword was complete, it gleamed like a beacon of perfection.
The king was astounded by Vulcan's work, declaring it the finest sword he had ever laid eyes upon.
Vulcan's small improvements led him to greatness. He became the kingdom's renowned blacksmith, sought after by knights and nobles far and wide.
What's my point?
This tale illustrates the magic of small improvements. It's a nice reminder that through small, consistent improvements, you can achieve greatness in any endeavor.
Never underestimate the power of incremental progress, for it is the foundation upon which greatness is built.
When it comes to your health, one of the biggest differentiators between super-successful clients and everyone else is that the great ones keep improving.
They keep evolving their healthy habits and making things 1% better.
And they do this over and over again.
If you look at the life of a happy client and pay close attention to their daily habits, from batch-prepping meals, to pre-bedtime rituals, to the frequency of their workouts... you will uncover a big secret.
The game-changing daily habits of the clients who are leaner and stronger than their peers, well, you might say what they are doing is underwhelming.
But that's the secret to success:
Be weird and do the boring things that frustrated folks refuse to do.
Prosperous people do simple and effective things when it comes to their faith, family, finances, and health.
They just do these basic things a little bit better than most everyone else.
You see, every fundamental habit works synergistically with the others.
Improvement in one area actually multiplies the improvement of the other areas.
It’s the difference between getting your bodyfat to a healthy level, so you can finally see your abs, versus always feeling 30 pounds overweight with low-back pain.
It's also the difference between a high quality of life and barely getting by.
If that seems hard to believe, here’s how a 20% increase compounded changes things, illustrated another way:
10 X 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 = 10,000,000,000
12 x 12 x 12 x 12 x 12 x 12 x 12 x 12 x 12 x 12 = 61,917,364,224
Twelve is only 20% bigger than 10, but compounded the difference is mind-boggling.
3 Tips to Improve Daily
After 25+ years of coaching men and women over the age of 40, I've discovered an "all-too-simple" way to build a leaner, stronger, and happier you.
This core of this philosophy is about working smarter versus harder.
If you put these three simple strategies into action, you will become leaner, stronger, and happier.
1. Copy success
That’s what you’re doing by reading this lesson, so you’re already off to a good start.
My best clients may have invented a few things from scratch, but most of their habits were things that they learned from other successful clients that they adapted, improved and made their own.
So study what’s working.
Borrow from the people who already have what you're looking for.
Model their success.
2. Implement
We all see dozens of good ideas.
But I’d guess most people actually implement about 2% of what they learn.
Successful clients are living, breathing pictures of implementation.
It’s not what you know.
3. Plussing
The concept of "plussing" is a Walt Disney term for continually improving and it should be a regular part of your vocabulary.
You may strive to improve 1% each day; however, this is getting 1% better in action.
- Improve your morning ritual
- Improve the conversations you have with yourself (your internal dialogue)
- Improve your focus in each training session
And you enhance each of these things 1% at a time.
This "plussing" will eventually give you that 10-20% edge in every area.
Something else I was pondering.
Unless you shape your life, circumstances will shape it for you.
Achieving the life you want requires work, sacrifice, investment, and persistence.
Strangely, most people don’t ever bother getting specific about what they want.
It’s hard to reach a destination if you don’t know where it is.
Right?
If others have already achieved what you’re trying to, it makes perfect sense to study them and follow their blueprint.
Heck you can outright copy somebody's daily formula for success.
Eat what they eat. Go to bed at the same time they do too.
It really doesn’t matter where you’re starting from, only where you want to go.
Have the self-confidence to challenge your current situation.
If your desire is big enough, you can do almost anything.
On the other hand, if you don't value something, or if it's not a priority, you will choose NOT to do it.
But either way, remember that you have a choice.
Here’s a super-simple key tip to making those goals happen:
ππππππ
Write them down.
Use a simple notebook and a black-ink pen.
I like these hardcover college-ruled notebooks so much that I buy them by the case.
A coach of mine said: "Only three percent of people have written goals and only one percent review those written goals daily."
Once again, be a "one percenter."
There’s no sense in working as hard as you do if that work isn’t moving you in the direction you want to go.
So write down those goals and have a great time making them a reality.
To your success,
Coach Joe
